Silver, Porco Mine, Potosi, Bolivia
The mines in Porco were already producing silver at the time of the Incas. Mining was further intensified by the Spanish inquisitors. In more recent times, the deposit, which lies in a 12 million year old caldera, is mainly mined for base metals such as zinc, lead and tin and is one of the largest deposits of these in Bolivia.
